Maritime UK South West

Non-profit Maritime UK South West wanted a magazine to promote careers in the maritime industries, aimed at 16-24 year olds. To create Navigator, a 28-page print mag, I project managed the job, wrote all the stories, concepted layouts and worked with the designer. It’s being distributed in schools and colleges across the South West. We also developed a digital version.

The work

Print

The South West is a place people tend to leave to get a good job. But in the maritime industries and beyond, the region has a skills shortage and plenty of opportunities. MUKSW wanted to show there are great jobs with real career prospects, and you don’t need to leave the South West to find them.

With a tight budget, we used inventive treatments to bring the subjects to life. I interviewed all of the subjects, wrote all the stories and devised all the treatments. I also oversaw all amends, proofing and client liaison.

Digital

Rather than defaulting to a pdf of the print product, we built a digital-first, responsive digital magazine. Working closely with a developer, we created scrolling stories with animated copy and full-bleed images to bring the content to life on screen.
