Esmeé Fairbairn Foundation

One of the UK’s largest grant givers, Esmeé Fairbairn wanted a new funding application portal. With a team of UX researchers and designers, I helped research and build and user test a fully-digital prototype of the portal.

The work

Phase 1: alpha

We carried out extensive user research, interviewing grantees at a one-day workshop to discover what they wanted from a funding application portal.

Phase 2: discovery

Once we’d established a series of common themes, we used this evidence to create a fully-functioning prototype of the portal. We then user-tested the architecture and modified it according to the results.

Phase 3: content creation

With the information architecture built, I wrote the UX copy for the portal, using Government Digital Standards guidelines. Every piece of copy, from the simple (CTA buttons) to the complex (guidance on necessary financial documents) was refined to be as clear and instructive as possible.
